Frequently Asked Questions

Q) I have an existing 135-litre hot water cylinder, can I conect a solar system to it?
A) A 135L cylinder is too small for a solar system. Even a very small solar panel can heat more than 135L of water in just one day. The minimum would be about 180L for solar.

Q) I am looking at installing a solar panel, and have very old 180L cylinders; do I need to replace it?
A) If your cylinder is very old, it would pay you to replace it at the same time. There is not much more work involved from a plumbing point of view.

Q) Why get a solar ready cylinder?
A) Say, if you want to conect a solar panel to your hot water cylinder, with a solar ready cylinder you can connect the solar unit straight on to your cylinder. This saves a lot of time (and money) when you decide to connect a solar unit to it at a later stage. Its worth considering.

Q) I only recently bought a cylinder, but it is not solar ready; do I need to replace it the cylinder if I want a solar system?
A) No, you can conect a solar system to any cylinder, but you just need a 5-port valve.
